Secret Service

Make this week “secret service” week in your home. Put your household member’s names in a hat and have each person draw a name. They are to do some form of “secret service” for that person during the week. Have fun!

Chapel Time

Every Wednesday the children of Rachel’s Place have “chapel time.”  Chapel is the time when we sing songs, listen to the Biblical story that is being taught that particular month, and pray.  It is twenty simple minutes of devotion, caring conversation, rituals, and service.  For some of these kids this is the only “church time” that they get.

February is Moses month.  The kids are learning about Moses’ life and how God used him to free His people from Pharaoh.  The kids are learning a song called “Let My People Go.”  In the song the kids raise their hand way up in the air and they shout out “LET MY PEOPLE GO.”  It’s a fun song and the kids have been driving their teachers crazy because they continue to sing the song in their classrooms.

One night, Ayden and Nikole were hanging out on our bed when Ayden started to sing “phro, let mi peeeepl GOOOOOOO!”  Nikole was completely taken back at what spontaneously came out of Ayden’s mouth.  She asked, “what was that?”  Ayden did it again for her and I said, “Hey, that is the song we are singing at Rachel’s Place.”

I could not believe it.  Ayden sits quietly and patiently during chapel time and I often wonder if he is picking up on what we are learning.  He answered my question pretty simply, didn’t he? It got me wondering how many more kids go home to their parents and burst out spontaneously with “Let my people go” at the dinner table.

Rachel’s Place IS the ministry of this congregation.  Children are learning and experiencing the Good News. They go home and continue to tell the story to their families.  Rachel’s Place is the only church for many of these children who come in and out of the doors of Hope Lutheran.

As we continue to do God’s Work in the community of Eau Claire, always remember that part of the work is happening just below our gathering space….it’s called Rachel’s Place.

God’s Peace
